Desde hace cinco años aproximadamente, que es el tiempo que llevo tomando apuntes, ideas, bocetos y datos para mi último libro “Educar sin Drogas”, yo sabía que iba a pisar unos cuantos callos y que iba a haber personas que no lo iban a tomar nada bien. Efectivamente, no se puede escribir sobre cómo fortalecer a nuestros jóvenes para que no caigan en las garras de las drogas y pretender que los que viven de su fabricación, distribución, venta y adicción te miren con buenos ojos.
Alcohol, tabaco, cannabis y metilfenidato son las sustancias que elegí para el trabajo por dos motivos: son las drogas más cercanas al entorno de nuestro alumnado (como ellos dicen, les cuesta “cero coma” conseguirlas) y por ende las que más problemas nos van a causar. No en vano, durante el último año de escritura del libro sucedieron numerosos fallecimientos por intoxicación etílica; guardo especial lugar en mi memoria el caso de una niñita de doce años del que se dio la macabra coincidencia de que escuché la noticia en el justo momento que dibujaba una ambulancia llevándose a un niño intoxicado.
Pese a ser muy duro con el alcohol y mostrar lo que no dice la televisión de este país, que el alcohol está presente en infinidad de casos de violencia de género, robos con intimidación, violaciones y malos tratos, o que provoca una muerte cada diez segundos según la OMS, o que es la principal causa de muerte entre los jóvenes superando a nivel mundial a los fallecimientos provocados por VIH, violencia y tuberculosis, pese a ello, digo, la camarera que todas las mañanas me pone mi café solo sigue sonriéndome como el ángel que es. Nuestro gobierno, todos los gobiernos del mundo, resumen el problema del alcohol a un problema de tráfico: “si bebes no conduzcas”, lo que algunos de nuestros jóvenes entienden así: “cono no voy a conducir, me voy a poner ciego como un topo”.
